Ever feel your tank is "just not big enough"?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
started with a 10 gallon last july, had a 75 by november lol

This is a real problem. I've found several answers to how to address it. My #1 cheapest easiest solution is keep smaller fish in the tank or change the aqua scaping. If you have a large tank with lots of swimming space fill it up with rock work etc. And if you have one that is full of rock work do an amono setup and open up the tank. Change your lighting, if its a really bright tank take it down a notch try different types of lighting, change the filtration return if you have it so the surface is constantly moving change it so the waters surface is glass and you can see the tank reflected at the waters surface.

Basically do what you can to change the way you view the tank and you'll rediscover it and it will feel large again and new and exciting. I've done this with my 110 tall 4 times and it works every-time. Next time it will become my first discus tank. An easy way to do this is to have multiple tanks and rotate the inhabitants and change decore/lighting.

But the easiest way to feel a tank is small is to put big fish in it and the easiest way to make a tank feel large is to put small fish in it.

My 600 seems to get smaller by the day, or maybe the gator gars are just growing by the day. A very likely possibility with them. Currently planning out the next upgrade, looking at some different designs from 1000 to about 3000 gallons.

Hmm when I was my old house i started with a 60 anyways after we moved I kinda quit the hobby . Anyways when I moved I had the itch again so I started small from a 20 and after a few days 100 gallon never set it up bought a 200 gal tank i but a stand but I end up not setting it up gave it to my mom lolz ... anyways finally got a 300 well thats what they told me but actually it was a 294.5 gallons lolz built a custom sump and a metal stand / with a woodskin and that all happened in less than 2 months lolz. anyways I have kept the tank for almost 1 yr and a half now Im already selling my tank I want something bigger lolz or this dimension that my LFS is fighting me on the dimension 81x36x35 they said the depth is too much but I know there are glass tanks 36inch in depth lol.

Yup...started out with a 20 high, then 55...and now a 150 gallon! Now I'm eyeing the backyard and thinking...hmmm...wouldn't it be nice to set up a fish house back there...like a 1000 gallon tank!!???? LOL

OFD. Obsessive Fish-keeping Disorder.:nilly:
There is no cure. Just go with it:headbang2

When you love something you never get enough or are 100 pct happy. I think we can all relate to you.

A year ago if someone asked me what an arowana was I would have said a weapon indians use. Up until july i had no care for fish keeping what so ever. Then came my birthday and for some reason all i wanted was a fish tank. I got one. A little 20 gallon tank from petsmart that i filled with fish 3 days later. Damn i was dumb! I could not stop thinking about getting a bigger tank until i did 1 month later in August i got a 56 gallon column. I put a albino oscar and a blood parrot. i severley messed up with the oscar and he is no longer with us.....:(. I consistently thought of getting a bigger and bigger tank until i messed up big and bought a large tiger oscar, juve arowana, severum, for my 56. needless to say big bioload. I then bought a 180 gallon and that is currently setup and i shut down my 20 gallon. I got 6 months out of it. :D. NOw all i can think about is building a stingray pond:headbang2. I have the funds but a certain person does not like fish very much. O well :cry:

I started with a 55 thought it was huge got a 75 thought it was really big then got a 90 thought it was even bigger. Then I got a 150 and thought now this is what I'm talking about but now it doesn't seem so big besides on water change day then I wish it were smaller lol.
