I recently took some fish out of my tank as I saw two fish on Rapps' list that I wanted. The great thing about being in my location is that there is a rather large group of people in the fish hobby who will take a nice free fish. So recently I gave away a female gold saum, female JD and a female red texas as I'm bringing in a male stalsbergi (as I didn't wan't any breeding going on and upsetting the tank harmony) and a male crenicichla cincta.

Well, ever since I took the female gold saum out my Vieja Regani has been staying in one corner behind a piece of driftwood and has dug a hole to just sit in. His/Her eating has been hit or miss because I have to manage to drop food right in its location as it won't even come out to eat.

Question is, has anyone else experienced something along these lines? And if so how long did it take for your fish to come out of its funk?

a few months back i lost my male trimac from my breeding pair.. well the female seemed depressed and didnt move for about a week... she died too..

I have a Jewel (.75") in a 55 gallon with my 1.5" Jack Dempsey. All the Jewel does is hide and sulk. I'm hoping as he gets bigger he'll get a bit more confident or I'll be looking to rehome him.

Yep, I had a bully datnoid and everytime I put him by himself he would sulk, and would barely eat.

any oscar owner will tell you that they are the sulkiest of all fish

my aequidens diadema is almost a foot long, boss of the tank, and the biggest baby ever! if I change the scenery around in any major way he sits on the bottom turns dark and sulks.
If I add another fish that he doesn't like he will push the other fish around and flare at him, never actually damaging the new fish just being a bully.
my friends vieja got popeye so I treated it in my hospital tank for him then made the mistake of putting the new fish in my tank after it had healed up.
The Diadema went crazy pushing the other fish around flaring gills and thrashing the plants and whatever he could get a grip on. I was shocked, quickly netted him and put him in the now clean quarantine tank which just became the Penalty Box.
I had to go to my father in laws for dinner so I called my buddy told him to pop by and pick up his fish and I would deal with my spazz of a fish when I got home.
That was mistake #2. we got home that evening and found the Time out tank empty, HE JUMPED OUT! probably in a furious rage over the injustice that was being done to him. He had been on the floor for what must have been a good amount of time becouse he was completely dry.
I felt horrible becouse he was an awesome fish and my girlfriend was almost crying. I dropped him back in the tank anyways and he revived! I couldnt believe it! he has been in the same tank for 2 weeks now becouse he got a pretty bad fungal infection from being on the floor for god knows how long and he lost a serious amount of his tail and dorsal fins but I returned him back to his home today and except for some damaged scales he is fine.
The worst situation ever with the best ending!

pure awesome.

Wow what a story! And what a fish! Love the coloration on that big guy there!

Well some good news, the Regani came out to feast on some blood worms tonight and is sometimes swimming across the tank. But still goes back to his/her hide out in the corner. Progress at least

Everytime I do anything in the JD's tank she sulks for a good 12-24 hours depending on how drastic the change.

As stated above, O's will indeed sulk. Most sulk when they are re-homed, have a drastic change in tank decor, or sometimes during water changes. It depends on the fish. My O sulked for two weeks when I changed his light on the tank lol. Their stomachs get the best of them though as they will hardly ever pass up a treat!
