As one person once said - "Theres no such thing as an impulse fish buy. They are just fish that I forgot that I had planned to get." :D

uhm.. bought or "saved".. I have had the privelige of owning one of the bigger tanks in my area and has been the disposal of big, angry and unwanted fish.. 30" rtc is the worst I took care of.. managed to get him to a public aquarium 20 000g + but I had to hold him for a couple of months..

never made a mistake? well then, good for you, paisans

anybody who was around before the internet, probably had a tougher time . . .

i have several times, doesn't help when your LFS tells you that they will fit in your tank ok.

How about an impulse buy with no thought of the consequences? That's us. My husband came across this 55 gallon tank at a moving away yard sale. He was intrigued by the large fish and had to have them.

In addition to the two 15" pacu, there were four large oscars and two plecos 12"+. The seller told my husband that the fish were oscars and pacu. We had to get online to learn which were the pacu and which were the oscars. The only thing I knew about fish keeping was that chlorinated water was not good for fish and that we needed a dechlorinator.

We live in a small rural area, and I am sure that our fish came out of this WalMart tank:

which had this sign on it:

The sign is correct. Pacu do grow to ten inches. Then 20", then 30"...

By the time we got our 300 gallon tank, I knew enough about pacu growth to realize that we had about 3 years to see if the 300 gallon tank was going to be adequate.

It isn't. Providing an adequate home for two fish is dominating our lives right now.

Yes, an impulse buy one summer afternoon five years ago has impacted our lives in a very very big way.

I did as a kid an Oscar for my 10g.

Now as an adult I am about to do it again ......:nilly: But I really want one really, really, really, really, really bad(arowana).

Acanthicus Adonis. What can I say? Saving $ for a new tank starts with my new job.
