my biggest mistake: ordering in a gold nugget plec and not checking for sunken belly to excited to get him home got him to eat but only lived for 2 days still my fav pleco...

Yeah this is expensive. I am applying to the local lfs to get a part time job to pay for this hobby.

over medication killed electric catfish, dragonfish in fw(newbie at the time), placing a blue crayfish with a elephant nose (newbie), holding off water change killed 7" blood parrot, live and learn

I worked at a lfs, it was like my third day and somebody dumped off a big ziploc bag of these cute little fishies that nobody would take. I couldnt even pronounce cichlid, but I overheard somebody call them a convict cichlid. The other(more experienced) employees insisted I take these little guys home to my tank. They were cute and free and I love fish.
I went home and plopped them into my 46 gallon community tank with goldfish and tropical fish(I know).. Some of the convicts were about an inch , the rest were much smaller. I didnt know anything about baby fish (fry) or else I would have assumed they would get eatin'
There must have been 30+ little convicts.

They grew fast!!!!! In a month, at least 2 of them were triple there size. I noticed one by one my fish were getting there eyes chewed out, but were still alive, I didnt suspect these little cuties. Then I noticed the biggest one had a bunch of tiny razor teeth. Before I could buy a new tank these fish killed all of my 5 year old fish. Except a blue gourami and a big goldfish, which were being eatin' alive :{Low and behold someone drops off more fish. Huge pleco, gold gourami, ect also about 5 years old. my blue gourami killed the gold gourami :( they were the same size.I came home one day and the air pump was gone, somebody stole it and all of my fish were at the top of the tank gasping for air, even the blue crayfish, he climbed up the air tube and was gripping it and my goldfish for dear life ;( That day I lost 2-buenos aires tetras 1- small blue crayfish 2- tadpoles 4-sm. black moors, 3-gold fantails-this tank was OVERSTOCKED so when the air pump went out they could not breath. after "All that drama"
- I lost two spotted puffers to moray eels
-I left my lid off and a tire track eel jumped out and dried out;(
-and my oscar ate an albino red tail shark, and three rainbows.
Theres alot more but its a shame I didnt know these things.
I could have prevented all of this . DUH!!!!!!

My eyes are blurry and I cant think straight, im addicted to this site and now I only get 3 hours of sleep for work. yay!!! Ive been posting here all day long. Maybe I will finish my story/book later. Not that anyone wants to read all this crap but I really do love typing about fish. And remembering all the wierd stuff that happened so fast.

I bought 2 ornate bircher and 2 african ropefish for my Parrot tank. Unfortunately i didn't buy an all-glass versatop.

The ropefish both made it all the way to the dog's dish in the kitchen. The birchers didn't survive the impact.

my biggest mistake is buying newly delivered fish from my LFS which added to stress.. and because i bought 20 pleco at the same time and dumped them on my 60 gal with 12 blue pleco.. they created a rollercoster on my nitrite and amonia... and due to my ignorance i changed the water as if it was a big drum... full blast which gave them one hell of a shock in temp! :swear: out of 32 pleco.. all are in heaven!!! one very expensive experience since it cost me so much!!! :swear:

I spent about $200 on a set up for a mantis shrimp. I had it up for about 2 weeks before my brother moved in to the spare room and put a bunch of crap on top of the lid and well an air freshener fell in. I guess my mistake was not telling my family that things like air fresheners and incense are bad things to put on an aquarium.
