Ever Seen A Bare Bottom...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hey kevin, glad to have another salty dog in here. We need more people to be frequenters.

I dont think you will ever keep your sand bed from going anoxic no matter how many critters you put in it.

I aggree that I wouldnt do the bare bottom because I try to replicated nature as closely as possible.

A remote DSB is the only one that I would ever advocate. So many things can go wrong with an in tank one, and facts are facts, the ammount of food INTO the tank, will equal the ammount of waste OUT of the tank. Unless you dont disturb your sand bed. In which case it goes down into your 8" of sand and stays there rotting and making toxic gasses.

Haha this is the only section I post in, I just haven't been posting much in the last month or two.

It is possible, but you need the right size of sand gain enough critters both are tricky, as the best sand is a teeeeeny particle size that I have yet to find in aragonite sand.

Nature knows what its doing always good to emulate haha.

Remote DSB is better because it cannot be disturbed by your fish which can cause it to crash haha. But I disagree with it being a nutrient sink with proper sand critters it wouldn't be one, with out yes.

I'm going to see if I can find that link on how to build a proper DSB...

Edit: haha found it, mite be an interesting read if you feel so inclined, though a bit lengthy.
