Ever wonder what happens when you get stung by a ray?

Man, I feel for you and share your pain. I took a ray barb in the center of my palm. Thought I'd hurl from the pain. The docs put my hand in a pan of water so hot I thought my skin would turn to soup. But, a couple of minutes in the hot water and the pain started to ebb. My sting happened on a military base so, no luxurious pain-killer drip for me. The docs gave me an antibiotic shot, a tetanus shot, and gave me 1 tylenol #3 with instructions to continue hot soaks and take regular tylenol for the pain. No sutures used. Just a couple of butterfly strips.

gung ho! jesus christ that must have sucked :( How effective was this treatment in terms of pain relief, over the next few days?

you got stabbed with both the old stinger and the newer upcoming stinger? how deep did they go in?

was the nasty pain immediate or did it take a few minutes/hours for serious effect?

that stitch wound looked like you got cut with a knife. heres a kool fact that i didnt know until recently. . . the poison isnt in the barb at all, its actually the skin around the barb thats poisoness. One day while i was at work at my local wildlife refuge i witness my boss get stung by a dimond stingray ( saltwater species) as he was trying to debarb the dam thing since the ray was a new addition to the petting pool, the tail swung around and stabbed his hand, and the barb didnt come out so the ray was thrashing while still attached to his hand finally he wripped it out and i got him some hot water to destroy the protein in the venom. He told me it dosent hurt when it goes in but IT FREAKIN HURTS WHEN IT SOME OUT!

Reminds me of the posts on a reptile wesbite that I frequent. Owners of reticulated pythons showing black and blue marks where they got NAILED by their "Precious Babies" But frankly, Id take a hit from a Retic any day before I got stung by one of those stingrays. Truly wicked. thanks for shareing

*Cheers*
