Everglades Pygmy Sunfish and Co.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Should have updated a few months ago, but I wanted to make sure they would be stable this time.
Got a new group of four E. evergladei in June. I lost one early on, but the remaining 3 are fat and healthy. No breeding behavior yet, but I’m keeping my eyes peeled. The guppy and neocaridina population is less thrilled with their arrival, but both are at least holding stable. I may need more snails though…
Best pics I could get - will try for updated shots:

The shrimplets should help. I agree with aussieman57 aussieman57 . Where I have found them has been heavily vegetated. or in creeks where there is erosion and lots of roots hanging down. I used to keep them with young musk turtles. The tank was mostly fossils built into a bank for the turtle to bask, and they would be down between them. Eventually they did learn to eat the food the turtle missed, but there was probably a good population of ostracods and gammarus. Definitely a cool fish. The more I think about it the more I miss mine.
