all payara get huge but people say that they die at about 12'' in captivity. i have vulpinus pushin 12'' and lookin good
 
Ive heard they can die from eating to much, I may get one when I get a bigger tank. Itd be nice to see if I could get one to eat Tilapia fillet like I have all my other Feeder dependant fish.
 
If I got mine to eat freeze dried krill right off the top of the water then fillets shouldn't be a problem, but I am betting you won't be able to without a skewer or string of some sort.
 
if vulpinus dont die mysteriously then why doesnt anyone have a big one?
 
Good question. Maybe there is....I know I tried to find someone and never did turn up anything. Never started checking into zoo type scenerios though.

Maybe they are like Gar and just don't get full size in most home aquariums. But in the wild you always see pics of monsters.
 
im gettin a 720 gal. in about 8 months, when i move into my new place. we'll have to see how big they get then.
