These are my first bp's. I've done enough research on the animal itself but not on the enclosure. i've kept every type of common snake in florida exsept for the posions ones lol.
Allright, well then let me know if you need anything man. As long as you know even half as much about snakes as you do fish, i think you will be fine.
Keep us posted.

I know that i needed a tank, water dish, 2 hiding spots, and a source of heat. but i was more worried about the substate to use for them, and how to keep the humidity perfect.

Allright, well the first time around, before I switched to paper towels, I used reptibark and mixed that with a coconut bark cube (which obviously you mix with water to expand first). Before i was just trying to use the reptibark, but keeping humidity was a problem, by getting the coconut cube and combining the two, it solved this. Then to maintain humidity I bought a spray bottle, and misted regularly. Didnt have any problems this way, I just ran out of substrate recently so thats why I switched. Also, your going to find if you go with a ceramic heater in a glass tank, it robs humidty quickly then other heating sources, which is why I upgraded the size of the water dish to combat this.

cypress mulch is GREAT for keeping humidity up, there's also aspen and sani chips..but neither hold humidity like cypress mulch. stay away from anything containing pine.

newspaper is also a good choice, i use it and it keeps the humidity perfect in the tubs.

well its going in a glass tank, its going to be one of the 3 displays in my room. So I was thinking a 29gallon glass tank, with a heat lamp on one corner.

I like the idea of the paper towels, but I dont know how appealing that is going to be. where should I keep the water dish? on the cooler side or the warm side?

cool side is best, IMO. unless your humidity is low.

cooler side is the better, but like themightyoscar said, if your having problems with humidty, the warm, mine is somewhat in the middle as it is in a 10 since it is still a juvie. Just make sure the water you give it isnt really cold, mine is luke-warm/room temp, as cold water can hinder digestion, and maybe even cause the snake to regurgitate. Also, this wasn't covered yet, but your going to want to bump up the humidity during the shedding process.
