exactly how toxic is nitrite?

i heard from one source that ammonia is way worse, then i heard from another that nitrite is worse. my 2 inch green terror was exposed to .25 nitrite for about a day until i took him out of there. he looks fine now but he really didnt look to well when he was in there although he was eating pellets. is .25nitrite really bad? or did i screw up my fish. i do understand that all 0 ammonia 0 nitrite is the best for fish

.25 nitrite will kill a fish but not immediately. Ammonia is much worse than nitrite

well he was in there for a day maybe, should i worry about stunted growth thats another thing ive heard can happen
