Exactly what I'm looking for but is it risky?

Every piece I have used since moving to the US I have collected from river banks and creeks near where I live
I soak them in bleach water for a while then leave them submerged until they’re water logged, pull them out, power wash or scrub depending on size, then into the tank

Looks like someone brought back a whole lot of wood from the beach.
I say soak your piece in whatever it will fit in till it sinks. Then should be good to go. May take weeks maybe months all depends on how long it's been out of the ocean drying.

Every piece I've put in my tank this century has been taken straight from the beach, hosed off and thrown in the tank. No issues.
I'm another collector of feral wood. I usually soak it outdoors in my pond until it starts to get waterlogged and then into the house it comes. No other treatment of any kind, and no problems.
I have one small piece that was purchased for me as a gift. Personally, the idea of paying someone else to pick up junk wood, transport it to a store, mark it up and then sell it is utterly nonsensical.

I racked up a decent amount of store credit at my local collecting & delivering nice pieces of decorative wood. Enough to buy fish food for about 2 yrs off 1 delivery 
Mine all comes from the beach too, sometimes I hose off stuff, but mostly just toss in in the tank.
Sometimes the tannins get thick, but a few water changes usually dilute them.
The log above was too long for the 6 ft tank, but left enough space hanging over, to tie a bromilead to the end that remains dry.
Sometimes I think I go a tad overbroard, and end up thowing some of the less gnarly pieces away to make room for the most interesting ones.
