Excessive water changes, harmful?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
wudent the ph get high if you changed water every day 1/3rd of a tank enless there eating a lot

Not if you use the same water supply. Ph should not change due to feeding.

Depends on the chemistry of the change water.

PH can change due to feeding and it depends on a few factors.

1. The hardeness of the water
2. The stocking density of the tank
3. The amount of feeding
4. bio filtration.

Food and waste turn into ammonia. Ammonia is consumed by bb. End result of nitogen cycle produces nitric acid which can lower the tanks ph.

Howdy,

To answer the original Q: No problem, unless you have plants. Crypts sometimes prefer old water. Unless your tap water has 10-20 ppm nitrates, faster growing plants may require add'l nitrogen fertilization (i.e fish waste accumulation). That's just two examples.

Re: pH and feeding: The theory is nice and well, but only pans out in reality in tanks that are unmaintained mud puddles. I.e. not here.
