Great looking pair. I am surprised they are playing so nice, everything I have heard and seen, leads me to believe these guys are killers.

What size were they when summer camp started for them and an in-ground pond? Amazing ....

Well I've heard similar things. I think what helped control aggression was raising them together in the pond. The 12'x5'x30" / 1100G pond gave them lots of room to roam, and get out of harm's way. In an aquarium, it can be an entirely different story

The largest were about 5-6", the smallest 3-4". So in four months they increased their length by 50% and their overall size by 100%. Pretty amazing growth rate.

Wow  Congratulations! And yes, be ready as I've lost females before from male aggression after breeding. Just have a divider ready and monitor behavior. Good luck and keep us posted.

Awesome looking pair! How often did you feed them while they were in the pond?

Beautiful pair!! Hopefully they will spawn for you. Like to see a video of these guys.

Thanks. If they spawn, I'll put a video up.

I will watch them carefully. Thanks for the encouragement. I'll let the forum know as soon as something (positive:thumbsup: or negative:thumbsdow) happens.

Lovely looking fish!! I've been thinking a lot about the idea of keeping fish outdoors in a pond over summer, and with our mild climate I'm sure with a little additional heat and plenty of insulation they could be housed year round. Obviously they're doing ok at 18-20C, is it just the beani and GT in there, or other species?

Thanks. They were usually fed two or three times a day on a variety of pellet foods.

Hey David. I envy your plan to keep an "all year" outdoor pond going. This year, I had Australoheros sp. Red Ceibals, Cichlasoma dimerus, Paraneetroplus breidohri and hartwegi along with the 'beani' anf GTs. Also 5 or 6 Florida native species (they can take the cold). In the past I've even had plecos and Gymnogeophagus out there too. All have thrived outdoors.

Very beautiful and congrats:) I would love to take your extras:)

Thank you Jason. If you weren't in the States and me in Canada, I wouldn't hesitate. But the logistics, regulations and cost are just too prohibitive to ship across the border. BTW, I really like your website. Those 'istlanum' are awesome.
