I don't know enough about sumps to offer any good advice. But if it was my tank, I would redo all the inner seals. The cost it low to do that, it just takes some time. I've done that to all the used tanks I've bought

What kind of sealant did you use? And any tips for a first timer?

Bump.

Check out this thread for which type of silicone. I've used the GE stuff

http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=118131

Keep in mind there are two seals on a tank. There is a inner seal which is in between the panels of glass and is more like a structural seal than anything else. Then there is the outer seal which is just on the inside of the tank which makes the tank 100% water tight and also helps to hold the glass together.

When I have resealed tanks, I started by carefully removing the outer seal making sure NOT to touch the inner seal. I used a new razer blade to careful remove it. Make sure you remove all of it as new silicone does not hold very well to old silicon. I washed the seam really good with a bleach % water solution (about 10% bleach) followed by a few water rinses. I the put in a new coating of silicone and let it cure for two weeks.

You will get pc of mind that your tank is not going to start to leak any time soon.

Let me know if you would like a few links to a step by step process with pics.
