Sorry I know it’s not a monster fish but I’m Looking to add about 30 bucktooth tetras to my 300 gallon with one fancy goldfish. Just kidding, seriously though I’m on the east coast and having a horrible time trying to find these little guys. Seen conflicting discussions on legality of the fish especially in non piranha friendly states but seen nothing concrete. Any online sources would be helpful as well, Most I’ve seen are out of stock thanks.

Probably a seasonal species just keep checking with reputable vendors.

A couple months ago my LFS had about a dozen Exodons in a 55 gal. Tank scaped with stacked rocks. One of the group was nearly 3" long, the others were noticeably smaller. The big Exodon was relentlessly chasing the others.
A week later, big Exodon still there. 2 Exodons hiding tight under a rock. One other Exo had actually jumped into an adjacent tank. The rest were MIA. Probably a good idea to stock as many similar sized Exodons as you can, and at the same time. Exodons are legal here in Oklahoma, but rarely offered for sale.

I discovered them a couple of weeks ago on the DIY Kings channel, it looked like he was keeping about 30 of them in a 55 gal or so. They have been very hard to find. The most I’ve gathered is they are a no go to be housed with scaled fish for the obvious reason and all normal schooling fish rules apply.

I've kept several different shoals of Exodons over the years. Very interesting and active fish. It's said they can reach 5"+ but in my experience that is rare. My best suggestions would be that they need a larger tank than you would think for their size. Keep at least 10, more if possible. Have plenty of sight breaks and hiding places.

As far as finding them, they are seasonal, and I'd say you've likely missed the window this year.

That’s starting to become a realization. Better luck next sprig I guess! Thanks
