why are exodons so expensive, contradictory to what people write about them? (easy to maintain, cheap, long lived)...

if i took a trip to the amazon how hard would it be for me to get a micro-net (or even a scoop net) and catch like 200 of them within the hour?

one thing i learned with every fairly shallow water river (10 feet or less) and its inhabitants is that you can catch any mid-upper dwelling fish in masses with some bread or other food material that gives off high odor in water. even spit can catch guppies. during a trip to brazil i learned you can even catch piranha by throwing some white bread into the water and scooping at it once it starts to churn... the point im tryna make is why are they so expensive? they should be ridiculously easy to obtain!

they arent always available i believe.
only a certain time a year...
and i dont think they are found in many countries that can export them?
also remember...theyre not really that expensive.
people just make them to be...
you could probably get them for a buck in south america.
but then theyre shipped here, then the lfs need to earn profit etc. etc. etc.

It matters where you live. if you were in driving distance from TFD in ohio you can get them for 2.50 a peice. And a discount on a group. And they do ship them but at a cost. I would guess that 20 of them could be had for around 70-80 shipped if you are in the US. Give them a call.

Someone else here said that is no longer true.Retkus how much do they go for in your area? Here they are from five to eight bucks each but not too many people seem to be into them as the tanks with them are pretty full most of the time.

Most of the stores where I have encountered exxodons are willing to give me lower prices ($3-4) as long as I order the minimum bulk starting around 40-50 pieces, which is prolly the amount where a school of exxodons start looking good anyways.

I'd imagine they retail them for $5-8 because of the amount of losses, while the exxodon is prolly a hearty fish they are agressive nippers and the store prolly looses quite a few to cannibalism.

They are also a seasonal wild caught only species so that significanlty raises the price even for a small fish.

Not true at all. They have them listed on aquabid and you can buy 1 or 100 if you wanted. I bought 80 bucks worth of fish from them last fall. And i just called them and placed the order. I was told by another member here that deals with tfd alot that they put that up on the vender forum to stop all the nickle and dimeing. They had people ordering 3 dollar fish and then complaining about the shipping price. The guy told me on the phone that he had a customer wanting 10 feeder ghost shrimp. They sell them for 10 cents each. And he told the customer that he could not sell him a dollars worth of stuff. And the guy was threating to call the BBB about it.
