Yeah id say that they are the best monsterfish for planted tanks.

Totally agree, but you can't have any cleaners in there with them though, that was the only reason I had to get them out, it was either keep the planted tank or keep the fish. They even killed off the Otto catfishes and my khuli loaches. I had already invested way too much money into the tank itself so i had to make a decision. If I had known more about plants before I would have gotten hardier plants that need less maintenance:screwy:. I was very happy with little monsters.

plecos?

I just seen this. To answer the questions, statements. They do not have teeth. They cannot be kept with other fish besides plecos (mine tear up comets bigger then them in a fury) Make sure the fish are around the same size because they will eat smaller Exos. The bigger the school the better. Do not put them in a open top tank because they will jump every chance they get. Feed heavily to kill aggression.

I have a 200+ school of Exos and love them! My favorite tank.

False. I got bitten by a 4" exo 2 days ago along with 100+ others while transfering them to their new tank and they do not have teeth. Not one of them was able to take any skin from me. The have a large rough bony mouth but no teeth.

they have "teeth" that are used to pick scales from other fish.
but they cant take off skin and the "teeth" arent really like some predatory fish.

To me calling them "teeth" is really a misleading description. It is like saying a largemouth bass has teeth because they have a rough lip. I don't feel they meet the traditional def. of a tooth for vertebrates. I can see your side. I just don't agree:)

from angelfire,
The mouth of E. paradoxus is terminal and scarcely oblique; its premaxilla, which has an ascending process, has 3 outer tusks and 6 inner acute; the maxilla bears a tubercle near its joint and 9 or 10 acute teeth, the latter ones pointing outward. The mandible has 4 external tubercles, the foremost one pointing forward, and an inner series of about 17 small conical teeth of the characid type.

That is a strong point but that fish is very degraded. Alot of fish skulls appear like that. One with skin on its mouth looks like this with no teeth penetrating. I have held some of mine trying to find those teeth and cannot see them.

yea i know.
which is why i stated they dont have teeth like most predatory fish.
meaning their teeth do not stick out.
but they DO have real teeth.
