currently i haev 14 doing FINE in a 10 gallon, they will be moved to a 20 long real soon, and then the shoal will become 20-25.

Ive had 42 in a 50 gallon breeder doing fine as well.

I am really trying not to be offensive with you here, but what you said is really making my blood boil. That is one of the worst stocking situations I have ever seen in all my time. And to think that you said they were fine and you seemed so confident of that. I am sure you are more uneducated in the matter instead of deliberately tormenting these fish. But if that is the case I suggest you do not give advice in what you are not knowledgeable of..

You can not fit one exo in a 10 gallon…not one…
They are very active fish, constantly moving and rarely stopping for a split second. That’s one difference of it compared to a pygo piranha. The second is that exo’s have to be kept in large shoals, they will not survive in small shoals like pygo piranhas do. 10 exos per shoal is normally the minimum, and the more the better. They can reach 6-8 inches in the wild, but 4 inches is the norm in captivity. Nonetheless my dad got two of his shoal to 6 inches in the past.

They are fantastic fish to have, extremely lively, and very aggressive. Despite lacking the teeth of piranhas, they will strip a small feeder, and snip at the scales and fins of bigger fish over a period of time until death.
In the wild they are for ever travelling in huge shoals of a hundred or more, taking what they fancy on the way to fill their stomachs.

Dawgz, you have a major stocking problem on your hands, that you need to address if you are to be a good fish keeper. Believe me, your fish are not ‘FINE’, they are only surviving as they are very hardy fish. Don’t suppose we can see any pictures of them (close ups) and of their tanks, it would be much appreciated.
Milkman, exos are not for your 10 gallon setup, I would suggest 4 dwarf puffers, great little fellas and true monsters at heart.

Sry this thread was posted long ago and i have already set up my 10gallon with a small mud turtle. Thanks.
