they probably do. And they might need hibernation. They would also eat any amphibians/fish you have so, probably not a good snake for this, that is if you could even find 'em up for sale...
4ft verticle and about 10 sq ft of ground space...could make more, the above water bit is very much in the design phase.....
Okay so you reakon a nice 'Jesus Lizard' or Red-eyed tree frogs! Thanks a lot lads, I wouldnt have know where to start, but now I'll have a good read up on these. The Enclosure probably wont be ready till Jan so I have some time! You've all been a BIG help!
You probably wont get as many results with Jesus Lizard as you will with basilisk. There are very few good caresheets or books. Instead, I would read up on the Chinese water dragon, their care is 95% identical. With that much space, I think its a no-brainer. Plenty of water, ground, and vertical space. With red-eyes, itll probably take you an hour to find 'em in there!
Good luck, and you better post pics when youre done! How much have you done though so far?
I was searching for Basilisk but just keep getting Dungeons and Dragons pages! I didnt know people still played! So I tagged on Jesus lizard... Your right theres not too much. I'll have a look for chinese water dragon.
With red-eyes, itll probably take you an hour to find 'em in there!
You can search PLUMED basilisk, GREEN basilisk, or basilisk LIZARD or any combination of those, and you should get someting, but still not much. Try http://sapphiredragonranch.com. It might be another link, but search it and you should get it
Haha if you breed ANY frog, youll have a couple thousand to deal with!
Can you get diving lizards/mopheaded iguana/brown tree climber - Uranoscodon Superciliosus in the hobby?
I like the Balisk a lot and its now on my wish list, but I want to watch it run on water, so would like to put it in a bigger enclosure. I'm lucky, I have the space and time (no money though hence the DIY, cant have it all can you! lol). If this enclosure works I'll do a much bigger one as I want to keep pacu. So for this I've been looking at smaller lizards...What about the amazon pygmy/dwarf geckos? are they available...
They dont run on water on a daily basis. Its only under stress when they run from predators. Youd have to havea HUGE enclosure to see it in action, and youd have to chase the poor thing half to death. Its like making a pufferfish puff.
As for diving lizards and dwarf geckos, Ive never seen any of them for sale anywhere. It would take some serious diggin' around...
Yeah, I can only seem to find research pages mentioning them, along with a few super keen Hobby Herpologists photographing them on holiday...There are A LOT of herps in the amazon! There not CITIES listed and they say they're very common there...have to start learning peuruvian...Oh for a plane ticket and a net, lol.
When I was a kid and had basilisks I would fill up my bath tub and drop them in hoping they would run across the water. Lets just say they disappointed me. Adults can't do it very well because they get too big, but babies and juveniles are suppose to be good at it but they need a lot of space to perform it.
