Experience with Asian Redtail (h.nemurus)?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
mine was mean as a mother****er!! it took a chunk from inbetween my thumb and index finger when i was cleaning his tank. when my red devil and FH began missing chunks of fin and scales every night i took him and traded him in. very fast growin fish. went from 3 inches with long white whiskers to 12" with a bright pink tail in a matter of a few months time. bad ass fish, you need lots of room. as far as all of them being as aggressive as mine was or as the literature on them suggests i dont know, but mine lived up to the reputation.

hahaha, thanks for the reply central.

Did you ever see it in action? Was it out and out aggressive or did it pounce on it;s tankmates when they came near?

he would be in his cave all day long( true nocturnal animal ). if any of my cichlids tried to get into his cave he would literally go nuts on them. he would come out in the day to grab chunks of food otherwise he was in his cave unless provoked. night time on the other hand was when hed get crazy. the first few times i noticed my cichlids missing scales and fins i figured it was due territory disputes between the 2. one night i was in my living room fairly late about 3 hours after the lights had gone out and i realized who the culprit behind the fins and scales was. i saw him trying to drag my red devil from its crack that he hid in at night time. the devil was about 8" and the cat was about 10". i got rid of him soon thereafter.

jesus, sounds like a pretty evil fish.

Other than it being a bastard - was it a good aquarium fish? Fun to watch eat etc

it was pretty sedentary unless provoked or enticed by food. he ate like an animal and otherwise pretty much stayed in his cave until half an hour or so before the timer goes off on my lights. for that half an hour and well into the night he was super active and harassed my fish
