I'm thinking about picking up some argentea at a swap this Sunday but can't find too much info on them.

What's their growth rate like? Are they fast growers like oscars or slow like festae? The seller only has them at 1". I've heard they can be aggressive but are they aggresssive like red devils? When do they start coloring up?

In my experience they grow slow for Vieja but I am not sure if that is typical or not. They can be aggressive toward other fish and especially amongst themselves. I would say equally or more aggressive than Red Devils but aggressive in a different way, they are not so blatant about their aggression as with other cichlids are.

My argentea is growing much faster than my regani and maculicauda if that means anything. I'm totally new to keeping them so I've not much else to offer.

My Argentea is growing way slower than my syns and not even close to an oscars growth rate

What sizes are your argenteas? And approximately what's their growth per month? 1/2"?

Mine was already pretty big when I got him but I'd say slower than most. Aggression isn't too over the top but at 12"+ they can generate some power.

More aggressive than a red devil but not as blatant. Sounds like a wolf in sheep's clothing.

I've experienced pretty slow growth as well. I have a single juvenile (~3in) in with an assortment of other CA's and anything of equal size or smaller than him he likes to bully a bit. Nothing over the top though... yet.

Only had mine three weeks so nothing to take into real consideration, but it has grown at least 1/2" in that time. The regani is next and the maculicauda is more inclined to graze than eat NLS so it is not growing nearly as fast.
