Double Rainbow
this is the first one that i have made and ive tried playing around with the hole and nothing has happend. the pump empties the sump after about 5 minutes. the tank is drilled 1" and the pvc is 1.25". any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I know this subject can be searched and ive done that and tried everything ive read so far for the past day.

sorry for the double post but even when there is no cap at all it doesnt flow fast enough and the 1/16" hole doesnt move fast enough either. only time it moves fast enough is when the hole is plug.

thats interesting. do you have pictures of it? ive built several and have had no problems. i made one out of 2" pvc and it easily drains my 3400gph pump. my 1.25" one handles my 1000gph as well

The problem is probably that your pump is over-sized for your standpipe. What gph is your pump running?

the pump should only be about 425 gph its a quietone 2200 at about 3.5'. but the hole is drilled at the top of the tank could this be a problem? My cameras broken and my cell phone is a sidekick 2 haha. I just got the tank and was told it was drilled at 1" but I thought it was funny that the external part of the bulkhead fits 1.25 Ive thought abuot making the durso 1.5" now could this help with flow? Ill get my gf iphone and see what i can show you.

Are you using 1" bulkhead or 1.25" ? Remove the 90 degree bend with the strainer. Put the strainer directly on the bulkhead. If it's a 1" bulkhead, that's too small for a side wall inlet and will restrict flow.

im not 100% sure i just picked up the tank a few days ago and was told 1" but im starting to think it is 1.25" because the part screwed on to the bulkhead fits 1.25" pvc. would that alone tell me that its 1.25" bulkhead? or can you buy fittings that make the piping bigger and add them straightto the bulkehead(never heard of anything like this but may have happend here)?

just took off the L with the strainer and it says 1" on it so the bulkhead fits 1". good thing i built the durso 1.25" im going to take off the 1.25" piece screwed onto the outside of the bulkhead and screw in a 1" piece and get a reducer, attach the durso, and see if that might help.
