Build a sump i think would be the best option but thats just personal preference

i realy and to build one ive been looking at them for hours tonight and i cant figure out a way to make the water go out of the tank and into the sump with out a siphan or having a hole in the tank?? i dont know how the over flow works can anyone tell me the best way to make this happen?
