extra large Bristle worm..... ????

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
hmmm... interesting points..

The main difference i could see with the I.D. pics was that fireworms tend to have thick rearward facing "bristles" or spikes bunched together.. whereas standard bristle worms have more of a fuzz and less bunched together spikes..

Anyone agree or disagree? The one in my aquarium seems to have the same "bunched" together spikes.. leading me to think it may be a fireworm.. though i am just now, since this thread, learning about fireworms... i thought all bristle worms were safe-ish for aquariums till now...

hmmm......... i'm not so much concerned... as much as i am interested in whats living in my aquarium, does anyone figure a higher quality pic would help? or is it always kind of a judgment call and never really for sure... Considering its living under my xenia's i'd prefer to know its not a fireworm..

it is definitely a tan colour, no red on the body, execpt for right at the bast of the "spikes\bristles" seems to have a red stem almost.. i dont know if that helps.

How long has your tank been up and running?

Have you noticed in inhabitants just randomly missing?

If he has been in there for a while, and nothing bad has come of it yet, then I doubt you have anything to worry about.

ya that is a good point thanks,
i haven't any missing inhabitants..
and i still have tons of little guys crawling around, snails crabs lots of copepods....
maybe its all okay.... i just hate that my xenia's haven;t mounted to any rocks, they are just all sprawled out over the sand..

maybe try to catch one to put in a bowl or something so you can get a clearer pic? as it would help, but it is basicaly a judgement call. That said, so long as there are no issues with things being eaten or missing then there is no issue.
