These have the potential of being something very unique and special. At first glance you might ID them as vennies but two things jump out at me.

A. Collection location. Brazil. Vennies do not come from Brazil.

B. The ocellated caudal spot. Definitely not a characteristic of vennies.

Someone might want to jump on them... they could end up being amazing specimens!!

If I had the space I'd be all over them!

John sent me a picture of them when I purchased his last 3 lents. I told him from the picture I saw on my phone the first thought would be ven's but it is very hard to say. Looking at the bigger picture I'd guess they are something undescribed. Similiar to ven's but who knows.

They are cool looking pikes whatever they are. Plus for $40 for any good sized wild pike you can't go wrong.

My local petstore actaully got one. They had no clue what it was so I jumped on it for $15. It is also about the same size. Someone else had three of unknown orgin like them on aquabid about two weeks ago. The one thing mine does is have a black line down the side when being territorial. Otherwise it completely disappears and is gold and reflective.

Another thing is that vennies normally have bars and stripes as well as spots on their heads. These just appear to have spots. Its possible they might be something else. Very interesting. Is it a confirmed Brazilian export?

hellrzr ~ Get some better pictures up for us man!!! We would greatly appreciate it! :)

They don't really look marmorata though, mostly look like sp. 'lugubris' or strigata if anything right now actually. I wish they were more active so I could look at them better and take better pictures of them. They hang in the back and hide most of the time when I am around. :(

Just got informed that they were actually from the Rio Xingu instead of the Rio Negro like I thought! Hahaha! Nice! Still not completely convinced they are marms yet though.

Xingu marms would be sick. Lucky pick up.
