Extreme Disrespect Shown Toward Muskie

We prefer to release most of our muskie; they spend a lot of time getting that big and mean. If you want to keep one, we won’t shun you, but if you kill one, leave it on the riverbank, and even stick a cigarette in its mouth to humiliate such a beautiful fish even in death, then yes, we’ve got a few choice words for you. S

uch was the case on Ottowa’s Madawaska River this past week, where this poor fish was left to die, according to Your Ottawa Region.

Not only was it killed meaninglessly, but it was humiliated with a cigarette put in its mouth. Whoever did this needs a serious lesson in conservation. – Rick Bach

yeah there are some pretty disrespectful fishermen out there. Every ice fishing season here the lake gets covered in dead burbot. Fish people think are garbage fish so they leave them to die on the ice instead of putting them back.

maybe they just found it dead on the shore, and it wasn't killed by them. once its a dead fish, placing a cigarette in the mouth...well as distasteful as it is, is not that big of a deal IMO

Theres a good chance it was found dead; but human selfishness never stops amazing me. It's equally likely this poor dude spent hours suffering while some redneck held hands with his sister and laughed. I wont go on a tirade here, but I seriously hope every animal abuser is at ones mercy someday... Weak, foolish humans.

Lots of fisherman around here DO NOT LIKE muskies very much. I've seen beheaded muskies, muskies that have their belly slitted up open or fishing them during 90-100F temperatures days.

There is a good chance that it was already dead before it was found......but I've seen too many idiots that would do it for fun.

alot of bass fisherman do this. they say "them damn muskies eat all our bass" then follow that up with "every muskie i catch i slit the belly and let it go." it is sad because many people like them and spend alot of money to fish for them including stocking them.

I agree that people who do this crap are worthless but why to you does it have to be rednecks? I'm from alabama and I am a pure sport fisherman and would never kill a fish unless I was eating it which I rarley do so keep the stereotypes to yourself

It's very touchy subject when it comes to stocking muskellunges in a new lake or the lake that used to have native muskellunges. Large northern pikes suffer same fate with muskellunges as well. Walleye fisherman do same thing to large northern pikes too just like bass fisherman did to the muskies.
