thanks to chonhzilla for introducing me to this technique; reverse lens. this was completely handheld, ill be doing some more when i get my ring adapter :D

it's pretty much just like it sounds, you take your lens off, and hold it against the body of your camera backwards. takes some getting used to and a super steady hand. just google reverse lens and youll see lots of good guides :)

thanks guys, can't wait to try this on some creepy crawlies!

word of advice, the guides say to slide your aperture lever so the lens is wide open. this lets in the most light but also gives you an extremely narrow depth of field, which blurs most of the pic.

i left the aperture closed with just a tiny hole and used a speedlight a few inches from the dime to get the most light. this was taken at a 1/500th shutter speed
 
This is cool. I just tried it and I am amazed at how well it works especially just holding the lens against the body by hand. Thanks for showing me this.:headbang2
