I have seen the house that they did in my area for the family.. the little boy has a disability, and he can not walk... making a house accommodating for the person and giving them an easier life is great IMO, but there does need to be a line drawn.

Just because you have faced an obstacle (just like everyone else has) that means we feel you should get to live in a 3 million dollar house.. no.. life isn't fair, and yeah, it sucks.. but come on.. what's essential, and what's not is getting a bit too blurred.
 
At the end of the day it is the reality shows producers,or whoever's money to spend how they wish...I have less of a problem with this than I have with no talent hacks such as the Kardashians getting large sums of cash being thrown at them just to be on a reality show.
 
They do not take your house for 1,000 in back taxes. It has to be much more than that. People have sold their house when they get behind because they realize they will never be able to afford it. The people who lost their house did so because of bad choices they made. It has nothing to do with the extreme house they get. It is like people who win the lottery and are broke shortly again. They do not know how to handle it and make bad choices, do like the NBA or NFL and have them take classes on how to deal. Then if they lose it, it is really on them

I completely get that the more lavish, the more $$ for the show. I get that.

But I am talking from a normal persons POV.
 
again, i repeat, it's a show called EXTREME MAKEOVER....not basic makeover. based on some of your posts i sense that you have a problem with ANYONE getting money handed to them regardless of their situation. I see these people getting these lavish new houses and i think "good for you" and i move on with my day and feel slightly uplifted....you apparently get PO'd because it's not you and the show "went too far"?
 
No, that's simply not the case. I do not need or want a house that lavish.. it's unnecessary.. kinda like it's pointless to give a legless man sneakers, or an handless man gloves..

Yes, it's great they are helping people in need.. which I have stated several times.

But, does that mean the house should have an in ground heated pool, 6 fireplaces, an indoor basketball court, and a 12 person jacuzzi?

What help is that doing for the families situation? Why not build them a house that fits all of their needs, with a *few* luxury things, and say "here, we are going to pay for $50,000 worth of your medical bills/treatment/fund.. etc"

They would get much further with financial help than they would with having a million lavish things.

Get it?
 
no need for the common sense lessons about the family situation, the show is about EXTREME HOME MAKEOVERS, not EXTREME FAMILY MAKEOVERS or EXTREME FINANCIAL MAKEOVER! it's what they do. i don't watch it because i don't really care to see stuff like that because it's excessive. i also don't watch mtv's cribs or vh1s MOST EXPENSIVE PADS countdowns. What i do understand though is there's a large part of the population that DOES like seeing that stuff and that's why the shows have been able to be so successfull, even if it's just for the shock factor of OMG, LOOK WHAT THEY HAVE or other rich people getting ideas of what to do with their money.

i just don't see why it even matters to you. it's not like they're picking up convicted rapists on their jail release date and giving them a 2 million dollar house

Great topic if we truely wanted to discuss the show but if we're limiting the scope to "does the family really need all that the show provides them?" then we're beating a dead horse as no one has said YES THEY NEED ALL OF THAT STUFF and we immediately established that's why people watch the show, to see EXTREME make over donated to random people who have gone through some type of struggle weither it's medical, financial or natural disaster
