About 4 months ago I broke down my midas cichlid tank. They had bred and there were a lot of babies. I eventually sold the pair and all of the babies with them, or so I thought. I left the little bit of water that the python hose could not get out. My lazyness prevented me from going any further with it. The tank sat for months. Last month I finally emptied out the tank. While scooping out the gravel I find one of the midas fry still alive. This fish survived no filtration, no heat, and no feeding for around 3 months. It was the size of a small guppy. Having no intention of keeping it, I tossed it in with my figure 8 puffer as a feeder. Well, a month later the puffer never ate it and it is now about an inch long feeding off the puffers scraps. He/she has kind of grown on me and I'm going to put it in a tank by itself. That brings me to this question. Will this fish ever grow to full size or will it be stunted for life?

Great story, I'm sure he will grow as normal. I had a similar situation recently, however the fish was living in a u-bend of a pipe for maybe 2 weeks, in about 100ml of water and no heating, food, filtartion. Put him in the tank and he recovered within a couple of days and has now tripled in size in just a few weeks. Hopefully yours will recover too, but as I said above, im sure he will as cichlids are very robust. Good luck and keep us updated

You left a tank with water still in it sitting there for 3 months? Sheesh.

That's crazy I wonder what he ate he had to ate something. If I would have found him there's no way I would have thrown him in as a feeder that little guys a survivor and he deserves to live.

Yeah I know, I was being lazy and the tank was just in the corner of the basement forgotten about. It became a shelf..... To be honest the only reason that I finished cleaning it out is that I plan to breed feeder swordtails or mollies in it.

I feel that way now, which is why it's getting it's own tank. As far as I can figure it must have been eating whatever scraps were left in the tank and since I was putting stuff on top of it all the time things may have fallen in there that it ate.

PICTURESSSSS!!!!!!!!
