Extremely Aggressive Green Terror Situation

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Is the jack the closest to the GT in size? That'd be my guess, most cichlids, especially SA and Central, the dominant and the biggest will commonly attack and pick on the next closest fish to its size just simply because in the fish's mind, its the most threatening one

green terrors can be very aggressive. Most would do ok in a setup like yours but you seem to have gotten one that is more aggressive than normal. you can try rearranging the tank and establish new territories and see if that works. however if he's already attacking other fish at 6-7", I would suspect it is most likely only going to get worse as he grows even larger. As others have said, you may wind up having to choose between him and the JD.

Oh and adding a jag will only make the situation much worse in the long run.

My JD is the closest in Size to my GT.
I can't rele rearange much in the tank, since my Oscar has made a home in the far left corner behind plant & the chest so I can't rele move that.

Also like I said the only other fish that I'll be adding to the tank is my Clown Knife when he's bigger, he's still only at 4", in my 25gallon

i had the same problem
the best way to deal with it is to seperate...
i put another big fish in with them but the gt
took on the other fish aswell

so your best bet is to separate so choose your fish
or replace him with a big female gt :)

Had the same problem for a while.
GT was always chasing after my male jag until my CK gave the GT one hell of a beating.
I gave the CK away and now everything is peaceful, the GT doesn't bother anyone anymore. LOL

I have a 3" gt that's highly aggressive as well. He killed one of my carpintis yesterday. He will come from the other side of the tank to chase after the carpintis and Texas I have left. Survival of the fittest

From my own research, I get the impression that the GT/JD combo does not work. Especially since the GT is larger than the JD, he does not wish for the JD to become a healthy competitor so he might just beat it till it dies. Probably just out of fear and out of dominance. Could be a little crowded too, that might make that GT even more territorial.
