EXTREMELY friendly snapping turtle...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Pix will come as soon as I am back on campus (I have friends who stay there so I'll try to get some sometime next week.) It's also breeding season though so I'm gonna have to hope the silly thing isn't off laying eggs somewhere! :D

Most wild snappers are actually quite timid in the water and aren't aggressive at all until you remove them from it. Then they show you how they got their name. :D

I knew a friendly snapping turtle that would tolerate me messing with him... until he got a good bite on me and sent me to the hospital. it was a 135lbs alligator snapping turtle that I got too comfortable with. Don't ever forget that no matter how "tame" they are, they are still wild

Oh yes, I know. Hence why *I* don't really screw with him too much...mainly just watch him and give him bait to keep him off my reel when I fish. I'm a little too intimidated by him to get closer :) He is fun to watch though.

As the owner of a macaw, I understand pretty well that wild animals are still wild. I learned that when my baby, who loves to be cuddled and held, threw a temper tantrum and took a good size chunk out of my hand. I still have the scar.

Our 2 large snappers are both mean as hell... in or out of the water. I do not even think about petting them.
