Well before anyone trys to troll me. I do water changes every other day (50%) and my tap water reads close to 0. the reason I need to fix this because I setup a huge tank for my redtail and I'd like to fix It.. the current tank is a Bullhead catfish and a redtail. I feed once a day about 1-2 night crawlers per fish. As I said I'd like to fix it before. I move them to a larger tank. IV heard of plants in -hob filters. I'd like to avoid plants actually in the tank because we all know redtails would just eat them

you need to -
reduce the amount of fish in the tank. you said one fish per tank so that's not an option.

increase water changes. yes, I read about the 50% every other day. maybe you need to do 50% twice a day. unfortunately this hobby isn't always about what you want to do, it's about what you need to do.

increase biological filtration. this can be done inside the tank, or out, or emersed using plants, algae or bacteria.

my suggestion would be start cranking on the water changes and start reading on the biology.

I don't see how 2 baby fish can make a tank do that. I used to have 5 channel cats all over 8 inches in a 30 gallon and i never had a problem with there water. There new tank has 6 hob filters all rated at 60 gallons per filter. I'm gonna try plants

ALSO: get a new test kit!!! The strip ones are crap and humidity (uhh, common around a fish tank) can ruin them and make them read funny! You should defs get a drops kit.

Test strips are totally unreliable get an API master test kit for more reliable results. But besides that keep up the water changes though I think it may be misleading test results or your tank isn't cycled.

The tank that they were was defitnally cycled the new tank isn't cycled but i had no choice to move them. So I'm going to do 3 water changes a day to keep everything down. Not gonna feed ever day neither. There's s total of. 5 fish In there all being Catfish besides a fire mouth chiclid. I used filters that were In the tank so maybe that will help n there's total of 6 filters. I'm gonna pick up a few plants to help. I also put a peice of drift wood that should help .

did you add the fish at the same time and what was in the tank before, if so you might have overworked the bacteria so more are growing to compensate
