Terapon jarbua are one of my local brackish fish (Brisbane Australia) everything that has been said about them is true they are terrors.

I think anything referred to as a "terror", would make the poor puffer very uncomfortable. They like to be the terror of the tank.

from what Tanyoberu is saying is that the Pike-Top Minnow(BB) isnt really a "terror" in the tank but more on the shy side. I dont plan on keeping a pair (I'm not looking to breed them). Puffers that I've kept before haven't dominanted the tank pre-say (maybe because they were always in a tank with my Scats, Monos, and Archers). Im confused now!!!!

Mixing Belonesox and Green spotted puffers would be a bad idea, for the BB sake. They rely on 'camaflouge' as a primary defense. But puffers and their great intellect and curiosity would make quick work of a BB. Even if the puffer took no interest in the BB, the fry would be an easy target.

BB's would be best in a tank with 'friendly' brackish mid to bottom swimmers that they couldn't eat. Brackish tolerant-PEACEFUL cichlids come to mind (convicts perhaps). Otherwise, it's a matter of experimenting. You could try the puffers. I'd go with the figure eight over the spotted as they are less aggressive. In my experience a puffer usually minds it's own business if it has business to mind. Otherwise it goes on a taste frenzy.

The columbian sharks make great tank mates, but they like the higher salinities when they are older.

Edit: You're options open to a much greater selection if you are looking for fish that tolerate some salt as the BB, like most other livebeares do well with hard water and some salt added.

if you want to go with cichlids go with Etroplus, I wouldn't bother with convicts, they are as aggressive or more so than the puffer theoretically
