the unknown looks to be a Labeotropheus of sorts only two kinds so that should narrow it down...
I am not a fan of striping, but no where has it been proven that stripping fish will make future generations bad parents. It is the whole nature v nurture argument. You may consider this argument before you do stripe, but do not count it as fact.
Also as it may be the overall thought, fish can eat early on in the holding process, in the wild, in some species they have seen males hold eggs and fry as well. I have on many occasions seen my fish eat at the beginning of holding with eggs and hold to full term...
