Who has lost a favorite fish to an overly aggressive, not-so-favorite fish?

My Oscar killed my Frontosa last nite and I was so pissed I want to get out of the hobby altogether!! That was my favorite fish! He stayed to his little cave and never had ANY issues with any of the fish, Oscar included.

We invest all this time and money in pursuit of this hobby and sometimes end up so disappointed.:headshake

Is it worth it to just go get another Front? Should I get rid of the Oscar? Is this a sign of things to come with this fish?

I'm bummed out.

Give it some time and it will pass? Loosing pets can be harder than loosing family. :(

My mom got into the hobby and the one thing she absoutly couldn't live without was a dwarf frog. She kept loosing fish one after another until she saw the frog nail one of her neons. Shortly after she gave the frog to me to feed to my catfish since that was only fair after it dined on $5 of fish a day one bite at a time. The frog ended up living quite happily in a 90 gal tank with his friendly 8 inch catfish for several months. They would even lay together and it was quite irritating. One day I walked by and the other fish were eating a halved cucumber... and there was the frog sitting on top. :irked:

That does suck. It's surprising they had no prior problems with each other. I am assuming there are no other culprits but the oscar.

I don't mind to lose a tetra every so often in my community tank, but it's the fish with personality and beauty that hurt to lose.

R.I.P. and better luck next time.

Uhm, not to be rude, but they probably shouldn't have been housed together to begin with...

Why would you keep an Oscar with a Front? Do you have children? Would you let them play with an alligator? Next time do some research before you just chuck incompatible fish together.

I 2nd this. You lost your fish because you didnt do the research or take advice.

Don't blame the Oscar for your mistake

if you like the Oscar - - and I assume you do or you wouldn't have one - - just try building a new setup around the Oscar

I see you have a 210G tank, is that correct? well, what else is in that tank right now?

i've never heard of oscars being that aggresive... more like a child and a kitten...

sorry for your loss

i dont know oscars are known for usually being peaceful despite their size. if you kept a front with a devil, midas, flowerhorn, buttikoferi, jag, dovi, etc...then.............
