Agreed with all above. I'd expect that if due to an infection or nutritional deficiency that it would have spread throughout the eye, or that both eyes would be effected by now. I'm also in the it's an injury camp.

Other than the redness, no bulging / swelling of either eye, loss of appetite, or light avoidance? Change in respiration?

Nope no problems eating/breathing. Other eye seems fine.

Sounds very much like its isolated to that eye. If it was infectious, a nutrition issue like a lack of Vitamin B2, or a water quality issue one would think it would effect the other eye and/or fish.

Frustrating, but it sounds like you're in the right course.
