i got baby caribes awhile ago there are 4 in a 60 gallon tank, they are about 2 inches right now , i dont keep a light over the tank so its usually pretty dark, tonight i noticed my biggest caribes eyes are like popping out of his head!?! the others eyes look fine but his look like there protruding. he hasnt been picked on hes the biggest of the group, what should i do????? hes swiming ok but i noticed him just hanging out at the top the other day.

Pop-eye.
Definitely a good idea to get him out of that tank and into quarantine.

Wtaer changes are the only way that will help. Sometimes though, the damage may become permanent. What were your water parameters?

Your other fish can catch this from the infected piranha so getting him in quarantine is very important.
Water changes daily.
Dose tank with 1 tablespoon of salt for ever 5 gallons of water.
After a water change, put in the amount of salt needed to replace the amount of water that came out for the water change.....
If eyes don't seem to be getting better after a few days to a week....you will need to get an antibiotic like Maracyn 2.

What are you water perimeters?

put the fish in a quarantine tank to make sure it wont infect if ever the cause of the eye pitruding is infectios to the other fish

ok ill get on that right away. my parameters are ammonia zero, nitrate 0 nitrite 0 ph 7
i do a water change at leat once a week but every 3 days usually im gonna move him to my 29 right now. thank you for your responses

never mind false alarm hes fine, im just paranoid because i smoke alot. plus im obcessed with my fish every 3 days 50 percent water change, it was my biggest caribe so his eyes looked a little bigger than the others but hes totally fine. sorry for the scare. oh and my water is aged at room temp

I think you are changing out too much water. 50% every 3 days is overkill. I would say 30% once a week until they are bigger, then change it twice a week, & you need to be filtering 10X your tank volume an hour, so 600 gph. Eventually you really need to get those guys into at least a 75 gallon, or split them up into 2 tanks.

its not overkill dude, world class discus breeders like jack wattley for instance ( i already had this arguement with other members in the african rift lake forum) so i called jack wattley and got to talk to his partner. he said with water being so cheap and large fish being pricey, breeders usually change out 80 percent a day with AGED water like i do with 0 chlorine. at room temp. so when i change the water i get a 1 degree fluctuation. i do this for my fish because i am a true hobbyist. i cant just sit there and look at my fish. i have to change 50 percent every 3 days because ive talked to some of the big guys in the discus trade. you may not agree with my schedule because its hard for average hobbyists to keep up with my routine, but dont feel bad im sure 30 percent once a week is super duper

Its fine to go to those lengths with your piranhas water. As long as you are at 0 chlorine, there is no PH or temperature fluctuation, and all other major parimeters are in the general area.
However, your comparing discuss care to piranha care (when talking about pygocentrus anyway). Not in the same league. Piranha's are nowhere near as sensitive to water conditions and do not need that large of water changes for healthy growth. To each his own though. You do what scratches that itch. I have my own.
