When it comes to fish preference there's hundreds to choose from. We all have our favourite species and there's some that we love and some that we don't. Personally i just don't get the ray thing, not one bit, and a lot of you positively coo over them, knives do nothing for me either. On the other hand i love flagtails and chalceus which i've got, and also the banded leporinus which i don't have any room for at this time. Which fish do you guys love the most and which species just don't float your boat at all?

Same here. There are a lot of passionate fans of rays and polys, but these aquatic critters have never had any appeal to me. Perhaps if I owned one, maybe I would "get it"....who knows.

Now, my semi realistic, dream fish would be silver arowanas, but I would only keep one if I can provide something over the 2000 gallon capacity. Realistically, I don't foresee this happening any time soon......or far

I can't stand blood parrots although that's objective rather than taste. Also don't really like those tanks with lots of different medium sized omnivorous cichlids. They're all the same aside from colour IMO.

Most amphilophus don't do it for me, nor do most of the very large aggressive species like Dovii.
I find discus boring too.
I have a new found love for rays and find them fascinating. Love most cichlids especially thorichthys and veija.I also really like silver dollars.

I never understood the goldfish thing. I would get out of the hobby all together if that's all I could own. The rays never did anything for me either. I've got to where I really only keep natives. Mainly pickerel and sunfish. I have had chiclids and all the typical fish you see at pet smart and other big chain pet stores and honestly I'll probably never do it again.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention, I hate goldfish man. Cyprinids are probably my favourite large group of fish but goldfish, nah mate

For me it has been never really been all about looks.
I've been interested in how fish have evolved in especially in unique ways because they were isolated on islands, or in small bodies of water in the middle of the desert.
The fish of Madagascar, of Haiti or Cuba, or in the small isolated pools of Cuatro Cienegas,or even the one single species of cichlid of Iran, or the Soda Lake species that come from water more saline than the ocean.
Paretroplus maculates of Madagascar

Nandopsis haitiensus from the island of Hispaniola

Alcolapia alcalicus of Lake Natron, saltier than the ocean

I hate glofish. They are boring. I think in that case I would also hate what ever tetra they are in normal form. Lol
I'm not crazy about most African cichlids. There are a few exceptions.

Overall I like most fish. My favorite fish is green terrors. My love for fish started with goldfish so they will always be special to me. I really enjoy my koi and fantail goldfish.

I am not really a cichlid fan at all, especially the fish like flowerhorns, which to me look like they just have a giant brain tumor growing out of their heads. Lol. I also am not a fan of arowana, upside down catfish, clown loaches, or polys. Goldfish are a definite no for me as well. In addition to those specific types, I'm not really a fan of small fish. Anything that stays under 3-4" is pretty boring to me, although the closer to 10" or over, the better.

My favorite types of fish are bass, peacock or native (although I've never kept any), spiny eels, and shark looking catfish. I would also like to own some rays, morays, and sunfish at some point.

I want to point out that the fish I listed as not liking are not necessarily fish I'd never own. They just don't grab my attention as of now. For example, I don't see myself liking the looks of flowerhorns, but if I ever found on that had a personality like the one Joey has shown in his videos recently, I would be extremely happy to have it.
