I got/rescued a red tiger motaguense today. He has scratches, torn fins, and 1 eye is slightly clouded. I have that all taken care of, but his other eye is pretty bad shape. It's flat and looks like paste almost and it's very smeared.

I need some help on identify what it is exactly and how to treat it.

Thanks in advance, and here's some pics: (there's a thread w/ more shots in the SA/CA section)

If you need a better pic from the side, let me know. The eye is blue, not yellow like it is in the pic. There are some side shots in my SA/CA thread too.

If the eye is lightly clouded you can use a product called eye fungex made by Aquatronics. I am not sure if that product is still available. If its not avail try a combo of Melafix and Pimafix. With Eye Fungex you have to take the fish out of the water and apply directly to the eye. If the eye is very cloudy with cataract formation nothing is likely to work. Just make sure there is no fungus growing on the outside of the eye ball. As this can spread and create more problems If the eye is red around it or in it with or without drainage and you cannot get the above product you might have treat with the combo of Melafix and Pimafix. If this is not effective use antibiotics in a hospital tank. Of course when using antibiotics this is for bacterial infections and may effect the biological filter.

I am sorry to say that I think the flat eye will never recover. The other eye should be fine, but it looks like the eye ruptured and the fluid was let out. This happened to my bigger severum. Other than that, clean warm water+melafix+pimafix+salt+hospital tank and he will be good in no time

Interesting, I might try it and put him in a Q tank so I don't harm my bacteria.

I was thinking the same thing, I've had 1 other fish suffer the same problem, but this mota's eye is still out a little. I think he may still have a chance...
