Almost done. All that is left is to add the plants and let it grow!

Nice! Venomous are illegal here! What are you using for the base underwater? Concrete? How does water flow threw it?

it is a mixture called hypertufa made from grout, peat moss, vermiculite and a bit of sphagnum. There is a discrete overflow that is about 3" x 2" that allows the water to flow through.

I am waiting on a glass top and for the plants to take root a bit and then the eyelash vipers will be added in. Also once the water gets to normal levels I will add in some farlowella cats, snails, and some shrimp. POSSIBLY some penninsula newts too but I am not sure how those will get along with the shrimp.

Sweetness! Though if I were you I'd try to add some more branches to climb on, there's lots of space in there that could be put to use. Above the water area, for instance.

Looks great. I would have thought a screen top for the air exchange for the snakes. Or a drilled lexan top. Are you going to drill the glass on top?

Although it would look great with some hanging limbs over the water. They are hot snakes so he needs room to safely get them out to feed and clean. Since there is more then one it wouldn't make to much sense to allow them to be in every corner of the tank. Got to have a safe zone to go in from.

I have added some test subjects to the water to help cycle the tank and make sure the grout mixture I used in the hypertufa is not toxic somehow. So far the fishies are fine although the goby I got keeps disappearing and reappearing every other hour or so- very strange since there is not much of a space to hide... It is making me nervous about putting the eyelash vipers in considering they will have more room to hide.

I do have some smaller branches that are not clear in the photos because they are so slim but I don't want much over the water because I do not want them to defecate in the water. For such small snakes they sure do poop a lot and water changes will not be practical with this set up so I am relying on plants to keep the levels safe.

SBUSE- I will not be "going into this tank" in any way with my hands. I might use 2' hemostats or hooks to work in the tank but my female has an impressive 18" strike range which means with her sitting on the ground in the center, she could reach just about anywhere she pleases.

I will not have to worry about ventilation because snakes have a low metabolism and there will be plenty of plants producing oxygen inside of the enclosure. I am more worried about keeping the required high humidity and preventing escapes.

Feeding will be done in the tank together but I will separate them to opposite ends so that they don't start eating each others food. I have had success with this in the past in smaller enclosures so I do not see it being an issue here.

That is a hell of a strike range. I would have thought 8" or 12" but not 18". With that you don't want to be digging around in there by hand. I didn't think about the humidity. I just remember my neighbors old burm tank and how he built it.

I suppose it is for the best I don't have something like this, so I'll just live vicariously through you. I would want a hot snake and I know I would get hit. Hell i just got bit by a mostly eaten red belly piranha, (dumbly stuck my finger in its mouth to feel how sharp the teeth were duh). I get hit by just about any snake I touch. Don't matter how I hold them they seem to go for me. My neighbors old 10' burm almost got me on the face, my fault cause she was about to shed. All I can say is that would have sucked, my face was in her mouth and I saw real close how big her teeth were. Luckily she didn't bite until I pulled my head back.

Anyway can't wait to see them in there!
