I used to put a shower towel around my filter gapes :) Worked for the time I needed it to :)

Too bad about your aro.. I feel your pain:(

Yup, you GOTTA "MacGyver" it sometimes just to MAKE SURE.

Yes , please put a folded towel over the filter access area. You can shape it to fit. My four incher jumped out and dried. :( Ive now got a foot long and a eight inch silver who are always jumping and hitting the top but they cant escape with the towel fitted there.

i don't know if we're just lucky or we did something right. Our sliver arowana doesn't try to get out. we put the egg crate lighting fixture stuff over the top of the tank and cut 2 4" holes in the center to drop food through.

I know she's bonked her head a couple times on the center glass so now she doesn't jump up to claim her food, she just waits for it to fall under the water and gobbles it up. And she doesn't try to get out..

sorry to hear about your lost. my jar just died too he was about 6 inches and he jumped out last night. i had it when it was 3 inches. but eventually i'll get another one. and i'm gonna secure mines from now on.

For fish that jump, you basically need a glass box, covering every posssible escape route. If not, it will be a carpet fish. Or you can put a large moat around your tank in case of an escape.

So sorry, I had it happen to the Aro in my youtube video in my signature. I still can't figure how he got out. I changed my method of weighting to a couple of heavy beach towels folded slightly larger than the entire top, but one end wont go up if hit since the weight is uniform.
So sorry for you loss, it hurts. Better luck with your next one.
