In my opinion... I feel Wild Caught fish (F0) should only be kept by those who are breeding/distributing them...
Then the rest of us can buy F1, etc offspring as our Pets...
As far as F0 x F1 = F0... I've heard it both ways...
This system is 'borrowed' from the ecientific communities who label breeding stock in experiments. So their first generation are F1, second is F2 and so on... we added F0 for our convenience. Since they would not cross F1 x F2 in general scientific esperimentation, there is no way to label half F's in this system.
I've heard breeders say that as long as one fish is Wild (F0) their offspring are F1, regardless of the other parents F#. I personally feel this is not appropriate, as the "other parent" who is not wild caught could have been from a long line of aquarium bred fish and could have even been hybridized at some point many generations back which has gone unnoticed. If I pay extra for a F1 fish I want to be assured that both parents are of pure wild stock...
