F0, F1, F2?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
F0 = Wild Caught

F1 = Fish / Fry from Wild Caught Parents

F2 = Fish / Fry from F1 parents

F3 = Fish / Fry from F2 parents

and the list continues on...

+1 and what would it be if a WC parent bred with a CB parent?

^ You know, i was just thinking that as well...

But i have a feeling they would consider it an F2 probably? since normally you need two wild caught parents to breed and produce fry in order for the Fry to be considered F1's...

So even an F0 breeding with an F1 i'm guessing leads to an F2 and not another F1?

although would love to hear other members thoughts on this as well since i'm honestly not 100% sure...

I always thought that if I ever came across something like that it'd be a F.5 lol

Most of the time breeders go F0xF0, and may got some F0xF1 If they're into genetic breeding (after morph or something), If someone did a cross over for F0xF?? They must have no F0 partner for the fish, or just being lazy. lol.

I would consider f1 bred with f500s useless fry. For example my wild midas breeding with a store midevil would be useless and i wouldnt even label it as f anything. Im sure people would be interested but i wont even sell them.

pretty much that's where the CB label comes in, to avoid confusion or so...
F1, F2, F3, F4...

More important than knowing the number of generations from wild (F#) is the provenance of the strain (i.e. being able to trace line back to the wild).

I'd consider the offspring of F5 x F5 of known provenance a lot more "pure" than the offsrping of crossing a wild fish (F0) with a fish of unknown provenance (i.e. a random LFS fish).

Don't overthing the F# thing. If in doubt, just list it out: F0 X F1...or F1 X F2. It's all pretty meaningless with provenance and a valid collection location...
