F1, F2, F3... Does it matter to you?

Oh just one more thing. For the people that are afraid of inbreeding.
With just 10 males and 10 females of one species you can breed so many bloodlines that you would never have to inbreed in a lifetime.

I do not really care about the f1, f2, f3 names, i care about the fish looking natural(and acting). Not really that important on rays, as none look the same. But lets say discus, they should be able to get stress stripes in a matter of seconds, they shall have the ability to turn black when not thriving etc.. Or you could go for a Blue Diamond, happy happy bluei bluei all the time. Not worth a dime in my case.. But each to their own :)

So would you still rather have wild or F1 compared to buying F2 from a reputable breeder that you know never inbred?

This was running through my mind today. If I got another male and had 3 females to start. Keeping females along the way maybe another male the possibilities could be endless. From one breeding of all three females you could, if luck was with you 9 female pups. Then the other male could be swapped in and you now have him breed the original three females. Similar luck and get 9 female pups. As long as you keep the females separate you have 12 different females to breed for each male. Then it becomes exponential. With just 2 males and 2-3 females you could have hundreds of different females yet be selectively breeding for patterns. All without inbreeding.

That would all depend on the fish available and prices. I still think a nicer looking captive bred ray f2 should cost less then a less attractive wild ray.

Seems that is how it is going now days. Last time wild leos were avail they were about 1200 ea and captive leo price is holding at 800
