man I miss my beanis.....

nice fish, how's the aggresion with the other fish in the tank?

I've never kept any beani, but I remember reading that they are preferably a solo setup type of cichlid due to aggression

That might be true, but I took the approach of keeping them in a community setting from the door. At 1.5 to 2in, I put them in with fish that was way bigger then them but not as mean as them and just let them work it out. There in the same tank(3 of them) with of all things a group of red and yellow Severums, 4 BGJD and not one of them have a mark. Sure the one in the photos know that hes the king of the tank, but since he or they was never isolated he's not a beast and know who to mess with and who not. He knows the pecking order because of the environment that I subjected them to at a early age. I'm not saying that this would work for everybody, but thats what works for me. I don't do anything special and they eat everything I throw in the tank from pellets to shrimps to earthworm with no problem. Now the biggest is 6in and the smallest is 4.5 to 5in and growing. So you can keep thinking that solo is the way to go, but the proof is in the pudding.

That is a great set up I have never tried keeping them in a community set up but a species tank didnt last very long for me. A lot of members will rethink their approach. keep us udated on the community tank and keep those pics coming. Your beani are fantastic now lets see those BGJD and severums.

one day have to stop by and see your setups when you get some free time, always liked beani's but didnt want one fish by its self, might give it a try one day.

Now thats one misconception, that I'm trying to put to rest. That the only way you can keep a Beani is by isolation. I too, am against keeping a solo wetpet. So with that said, Its like alot of people was saying that Pitbulls was unstable and vicious killer's. But as you can attest, its the handler and conditioning that makes them vicious. You must take into account that every individual fish is different as you well know, and I feel that with the right handler and condition, it might can be done. I also feel that space is a important factor in this equation. Don't think for a minute you can pull this off with a small foot print, but with room to roam the possiblity is there. Just My $.02

BTW, Your weclome to come by anytime...
