i think hondurans will be the new cons and are more attractive imo... they breed easily and havent been spread throughout the hobby yet so u might be able to get your stock out there in your community.... i look forward to more space too give theese guys a whirl

Well it seems my eggs have hatched today. The female has dug a big hole underneath the rock she laid them on and is hiding them underneath it. I could only see a few little tails under there with a flashlight but hard to see. Now im wondering if I should pull the babies and if I should do i take the parents out with them? I am very afraid of my Giant Danios consuming the babies when they become free swimming. The other catch is The tank id be putting them in is only a 7.5 gallon bowfront.

Thanks in advance for your help.

You should see where they live in the wild, They have to defend the spawn from 1,000's of mexican tetras, The danios don't stand a chance, it'll actually increase the pair bond with the pair to leave them in for a week or so, Then siphon the fry out first thing one morning while they are still piled up from the night. If you move the fry and parents to a stange tank then their own parents may eat them and then turn on each other. Ken

Alright, i figured 8 danios larger than my HRP's would outnumber them and easily get ahold of the fry. Ill leave them for a week and if something happens then ill know for the next spawn. :-)

Well my female did the best she could guarding the eggs, but the babies were falling within the gravel in the tank and became stuck and she could not reach them. I tried siphoning them out, I managed to save 15 of them and have them floating in the tank in a water bottle at the moment with small holes in it. So it looks like the next time I will have to pull the eggs. Anyone else experience this problem?

Ive saved babies fromt he father beforwe but didnt last long without care of their mother. but when they ahd a succesful brood the cared for them untilt he male wanted them to him self and bet the female up so i moved her and he raised them perfectly himself in fact im just doing my science fair project on them at this moment haha
