Not sure why people like these kind of fish? What's the draw to this type of fish?
Just looks like it's been worked over by another fish and the colors are all screwed up now!

How many of the offspring fade? Rough percentage, if you had to put a number on it?

From this first generation, approx. 25% I believe, but none of these fish may end up ever completely fading, if as earlier speculated the gene causing it originated from a piebald Lake Catemaco fenestratus in one of Conkels ponds. In some cases where a fish does not completely fade or finish peeling, with some black pigment remaining, the condition is known as hypomelanism. Grandaddy shown in the first pic would be a good example of this. But for now no telling what gene is causing this, so only time will tell what any of those juvies will look like when they mature.

Good question IMO. I'm not familiar with "the other" thread so a link might be helpful. I do feel it is important if gauging interest, especially among the uninitiated of which I am one to state the percentage (if known). I might be very interested if the fry were 100% going to fade into the fish pictured while much less interested if the young fish I purchase has a 2% chance of developing the colors pictured. I think a healthy debate is justified if gauging interest is the goal here. People can weigh the facts as presented and draw a personal opinion as to weather or not they would be interested. The court of public opinion is a fickle place.

Just follow the MFK rules of engagement while doing so, so no rules are broken. Remember hurt feelings don't count.

As for the yield that will fade I really don't know yet we will have to see. The greatest issue with this is that they dont fade until they reach a max size. The original male only began fading at 13 inches. Mine the female began at about 9 in.

I was fortunate enough to breed the original male to a "rio chacamax" female bifa and the female Lone_Wolf has is part of the original fry that I raised. I gave away the batch to friends in Los Angeles and San Diego and from what I've gathered, some and not all peeled but looked different from each other. I saw two that looked exactly like the original female.

That's the fun part of growing out fish, you'd never know how they would eventually look unless you grow them out. Enjoy the process and be patient. Definitely not for everyone but I think it would definitely worth growing out some.
