I just got this guy in monday and he's acting really weird trashing around sitting in the corner and not eating ... All my parameters are good ph is 6.5 -7.0, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, between 5-10ppm nitrate which is great for me since i had water changing 101 i've got all my tanks under control... anyway i really wanna keep this guy alive rite before xmas i bought an mbu puffer that was acting the same way and he didnt make it a week so if you guys have any suggestions i'm open for them heres a video link so you can see what i'm talking about http://youtu.be/vBlX8mWDRZQ

He needs a hide spot. people may argue this but fish can be scared to death like any other animal. He seems to be trying with all his might to run away. My Fahaka has a PVC elbow that he will sit in and watch the world go by in, and comes out wagging like crazy when I have food. Otherwise he looks in excellent health. Call me crazy but he looks scared half to death.

OK im going to make him a man cave and see what happens you very well may be correct sir ..... what about the eating any suggestions for that?

I agree with monsterminis, you meed some serious deco in there... Your puff seems freaked out...

Add as many hiding spots in as possible... I just re-arranged my 200G to give my girl more hiding spots and she seems to love it

Also what substrate is that and how thick? Might be an idea adding a bit more substrate in too...

As far as eating, what have you been trying to feed him/her?

Mine gets defrosted clams in full shell, mussels on half shell, scallops, home raised crays, prawns and other stuff...

Well the person i got him - her from was feeding massivore .. I've tried carnivore the smaller pellet shrimp shrimp with garlic snails, and blood worm ... what you think? he'll sit for the longest then start going crazy then sit over and over.....

It's possible he/she is getting a mirror reflection, and from what I understand fahakas are hard/impossible to breed due to conspecific aggression. So wouldn't rule it out entirely but I would add some hid spots first and see what happens. PVC is cheap and easy, driftwood also works, I would avoid anything that might shatter or break fairly easy either from teeth or the force he's generating. I wouldn't worry about trying to feed until he calms down, it's unlikely he'll take food until he settles in and you'de just be compromising your water quality.

Lights off, give it some time - throw a live crayfish or 2 in there and he'll eat when he's ready. Just avoid making changes or doing anything else that might stress it out and hopefully it will calm down.
