Fahaka acting strange

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Lights off, give it some time - throw a live crayfish or 2 in there and he'll eat when he's ready. Just avoid making changes or doing anything else that might stress it out and hopefully it will calm down.

Yea ive had them off if it comes on he goes bizerk and you know when i got him there was already a crayfish in there and he hadnt touched it so who knows but im tring doing everything you guys are telling me cause i wanna keep this guy for a while

It's possible he/she is getting a mirror reflection, and from what I understand fahakas are hard/impossible to breed due to conspecific aggression. So wouldn't rule it out entirely but I would add some hid spots first and see what happens. PVC is cheap and easy, driftwood also works, I would avoid anything that might shatter or break fairly easy either from teeth or the force he's generating. I wouldn't worry about trying to feed until he calms down, it's unlikely he'll take food until he settles in and you'de just be compromising your water quality.

Completely forgot about that one... yeah, they can and do freak out at their own reflections some times, which is why having decorations can be important...

Fish do not see a reflection in the glass.

Here's my fahaka's tank for an idea of decor:

Looks like he's doing much better. hard to say why exactly he's still hanging out in the same spot.. but glad he's eating and seems much calmer.
