Fahaka diet - from baby to adult

Puffers in the wild mostly eat crustaceans, and there aren't a lot of household bugs in the river. And insects that a puffer might run into are specifically born and live near water. If it can't survive in/ live on the water a puffer won't run into it. that's why i clarified because yes snails are insects but live underwater sometimes. But I mean mainly the weird stuff like I said, like don't through a bumble bee or household spider in the tank. Also just because they may eat certain ones in the wild doesn't mean it doesn't make them sick. My dog may naturally run into a bee or spider lol, but she got sick from eating them.

Also I posted and couldn't really figure out how to delete it after I rethought about it and how it was kind of a blanket statement cause snails and worms and waterbugs and such. So I'm just kinda going with it to be honest lol.

1) theirs nothing natural about our hobby.

2) insectcs are nutritious. Ex. Gut loaded crickets, earth worms are great meals and treats for any puffer.

3) we feed our puffers un-natural food all the time. Mussels, squid/octopus, custaceans that lived in SW to FW puffers and vice versa and thrive on it.

4) treating for IPs is important, its better to be preventative than reactive to any desease.

I'm sure my puffer would eat a Hissing Roach, for example, and that would not be a bad food item, assuming it was raised cleanly.

Regarding the prophylactic treatment of fish (any species) for intestinal parasites, I counsel against if for the reason that, first, regardless of what you do, that is not a guarantee of "eliminating" the problem and furthermore, if the fish is asymptomatic and otherwise does fine, you risk more by shotgunning his food/water with medications than you do by just leaving it alone. I am just talking about a fish which otherwise is healthy and behaves normally. If the fish is symptomatic, then by all means, treat it.

Sweet, I was kinda just reacting sorry guys lol. Just kinda reminded me of throwing random trash in a tank for a fish to eat. I would delete it but can't figure it out so, I guess I learn something new every day thanks!

I feed my fahaka shrimp and mussel from the asian super market. I sometimes give him fiddler crabs from my lfs.

Well , snails are not insects. And can you explain what the difference, nutritionally, between a water beetle and a land beetle, or for that mattter, a cockroach? They are in all likelihood nearly indentical. And nearly all fish will eat any terrestrial insect they can get ahold of. If feeding terrestrial foods are bad, why would earthworms be such a widely used, and praised, fish food?
